HI; I have a really hard one for someone to solve. I have tried and not been very good at it. Closet measures 36 inches wide by 6 feet long. The catch is, the door is on the 36" end not along the 6 foot length. We can't open the 6 foot wall because the entrance door is there and there is a good chance you might get knocked with the opening and closing of that door. So, as of right now there are 2 poles one in front of the other. The best I can do is put stuff on the back pole that is summer wear in winter, etc. But, it is very frustrating. Any good ideas out there how to better utilize this space?
One good thing is when I put stuff behind the front pole, I end up forgetting I have it and never end up wearing it...after a year, guess it is time to toss it! AAAGH!

how about setting it up with the poles and the cubbies on the long side of the closet -- so you have 6 feet of hanging clothes. Then you can put a high pole for out of season items. And if there are things that you have not worn or used in the past two years it is time to give those items away. There is no point to hanging onto things you do not use.

Hi Jan, yes that is a puzzle. However, could you hang anything needing full length hanging space in a different closet? That way the idea given above of hanging one rail high up and one rail half way down (but on the same side) might allow you to get in the closet and see/reach all the way to both ends of the two rails. Hope this helps, I know how frustrating it can be. All the best.

well, solved this one, sort of...ended up building a larger bedroom with loads of closet space in the basement. My Uncle took the room with the awful closet and it works fine for him. Thanks for all your help and suggestions!
